Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus (termed COVID-2019) that was first detected in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China and which continues to expand. Chinese health officials have reported hundreds of infections with COVID-2019 in China, including outside of Hubei Province. A number of countries, including the United States, have been actively screening incoming travelers from Wuhan and human infections with COVID-2019 have been confirmed in other regions of the world. The United States announced the first infection with COVID-19 detected in a traveler returning from Wuhan on January 21, 2020.
This is a rapidly evolving situation and information will be updated as it becomes available. TCHD is monitoring the situation and collaborating with regional/local health departments, Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and CDC.
