[ARCHIVED] Legionnaires' Disease Public Health Alert

Legionnaires Disease Fact Sheet CDC (002)

Tazewell County is at an alert level for Legionnaires’ Disease due to 8 case occurrences since January 2020. As of September 30, 2020, Legionnaires’ Disease cases have increased 133% compared to the same time in 2019.

 

Case investigation is ongoing to determine commonality of sources.  At this time, 2 cases can be directly associated with the UAW Building in Pekin.

 

  • Symptoms include loss of appetite, muscle pain, headache, fever, shortness of breath, cough, diarrhea, and general discomfort.
  • Some of these symptoms are also experienced with COVID infection. Talk to your healthcare provider about any exposure to COVID that you may have.
  • Different types of testing may be used to diagnose Legionnaires’ Disease, including urine antigen testing.
  • Symptoms can appear between 2 and 14 days after exposure to contaminated water.
