FAQ

How do I dispose of Electronics?

Every year, there is a One-day Electronics Waste Event held in East Peoria, typically in the beginning of October. Look for event announcements on our Facebook page and website. Also, go to the Recycling Resources section of our website to find electronics recyclers near you.

Where do I dispose of Household Hazardous Waste?

There are no local drop-off sites for household hazardous waste. There are one-day events that are held throughout the area, as well as permanent drop-off sites throughout the state. For more information on events and sites, visit https://www2.illinois.gov/epa/topics/waste-management/waste-disposal/household-hazardous-waste/Pages/collections.aspx. There is the alternative option of drying out your paints or adding cat litter to dry the liquid. Simply close the container after it is dried out and dispose of with your normal garbage.

What is the proper way to dispose of batteries?

Fires caused by batteries have been increasing in recent years due to mainly lithium-ion batteries. They can spontaneously combust, cause damage, and casualties. Find a local battery recycler, such as Batteries Plus Bulbs, that can properly handle your battery disposal for you.
