Mental Health First Aid

Sometimes, first aid isn’t a bandage, CPR, or calling 911.

Sometimes, first aid is YOU.

Did you know that you're more likely to encounter someone in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack? How would you respond and assist a person in crisis? That's where Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) comes in!

MHFA helps individuals learn the skills to aid or support a person experiencing a mental health challenge. MHFA uses a strengths-based, person centered, holistic perspective. MHFA aims to educate first aiders on how to recognize the signs of and respond to a person experiencing a mental health or substance use challenge. MHFA does not aim to diagnose or treat, but rather, serves as a link between a person experiencing a challenge and the appropriate support they need.

MHFA at TCHD

TCHD offers both Adult MHFA and Youth MHFA classes. Adult MHFA teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adults while Youth MHFA teaches you how to respond to adolescent ages 12-18 experiencing challenges.
